Biography

John Banks Crawford was born on 26 March 1883 in Perth, Perthshire, ScotlandO.1,2,3,4 He and Jane Pullar Taylor were married on 31 December 1906 in Perth, Perthshire, ScotlandO.5 He died on 10 March 1956, at age 72, in Perth, Perthshire, ScotlandO. He was buried after 10 March 1956 in Wellshill Cemetery, Perth, Perthshire, Scotland.6
John Banks Crawford and Jane Pullar Crawford (nee Taylor) had their first home at 10 Paul Street, Perth. Their first two children (Robert & Jessie - known as Netta) were born here. They stayed in Paul Street for seven years before moving to Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppy in March 1914.
Their first house in Sheerness was 11 Jefferson Road; followed by 65 Clyde Street, where their third child (Doris) was born, then finally moving to a third house in Alma road. The family returned to Perth in 1922 after John Banks retired from the navy with 22 years of service and attaining rank of Chief Petty Officer Telegraphist.
Back in Perth, the family's first house was in Craigie Park Terrace adjacent to St.Johnstone Football Club. In 1923 their fourth child (John) was born and four years later (1927) the family moved into one of the new Corporation steel houses at 44 Gray Street, Craigie.
Since leaving the navy, John Banks had a number of different jobs but the main ones were - working at the Luncharty bleachfields; boilerman at Perth Prison; 'Banks' the rope merchants.
He retired from 'Banks' in 1947 and lived on at Gray Street until he died on April 10th 1956. His wife, Jane stayed on for some time before moving into a small cottage at 208 Crieff Road where she lived until her death on 16 December 1964. John Banks Crawford resided in Perth West Church, Perthshire, Scotland, in 1891.1 He resided in Gibraltar, Vessels, Royal Navy, England, in 1901.2 With the Royal Navy as a Merchant Marine. He resided in Royal Navy, England, on 2 April 1911.3 He was a freemason on 11 June 1920 in Sheerness, Kent, EnglandO.4 He resided on 3 September 1920.4
